We recommend completing the 'Reflection Tools' tutorial in the platform 'Can We Help?' side bar. This will guide you through all the basics of using a Reflection.
What can I use the Edit feature for?
The Edit feature allows you to take a clip from an existing video. It can be really useful for selecting a focused section of practice to reflect and comment upon or share with others.
You can use it to:
- take a shorter clip from an existing video and create a new Reflection to reflect upon and/or share with others, whilst retaining the 'master' clip.
- save numerous clips into one Reflection to create a 'showreel' of practice.
- create a number of clips of sections to keep within a reflection, thus allowing you to delete the master and only retain the sections you wish to. (Note: You cannot directly 'edit out' a segment of a video).
Within the Edit panel you can also edit dual reflections to:
- select a single view option
- switch the placement of the left and right videos.
NOTE: You can only access the Edit panel on a Reflection that you own.
To ensure that Reflection owners retain control over their recordings, you cannot access the Edit features for Reflections that have been shared with you. If you wish to have a seperate clip from a shared Reflection, you will need to speak with the owner to ask them to edit the video and reshare it to you.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Jump to:
1. Select the Reflection
Access your Reflections library
Use the navigation pane at the top of your platform page to navigate to your personal Reflections library.
Select the Reflection you wish to clip from
From your Reflections library, identify the Reflection you would like to use. Select Review to go to that Reflection's review page.
2. Use the Edit panel to take a clip
Open the Edit panel
- Underneath the video player, you will see a menu bar. Make sure that you are in the 'Edit' tab.
- Click the 'Edit' button next to the video you wish to clip. This will open the edit panel.
Select the clip
You now need to determine the timestamps that you would like for the start and end of the new clip.
- Drag the scrubber bar on the video player to the time you would like the clip to start.
- Click Start. The time stamp will populate next the the word Start.
- Now select the time in the video you wish your new clip to end at.
- Click End.
- If you would like to alter the times, you can use the red cross to reset the timestamps.
Once you are happy with the selection, click the green tick to save your clip.
TIP: Pause the video to select the 'start' and 'end' times.
You may find it easier to have established your desired start and end times for your clip before starting to edit. Jot down the times you want, and then pause the video, using the scrubbing bar to find them in the video.
3. Save the clip to a Reflection
When you create a new clip, you can choose to save it into a brand new Reflection, or into one of your existing Reflections.
Please note that an edited clip will not contain any comments associated with the original. You will still retain your master reflection.
a. Save to a new Reflection
- When the Save Clip pop up opens, select 'Save to a new Reflection'.
- In the green box, type a name for the new Reflection.
- Click the plus icon to save your Reflection.
- You will be taken to the new Reflection review page.
b. Save to an existing Reflection
- Simply select an existing Reflection from the list displayed.
- You will be taken to that Reflection review page and your clip will show as a new video underneath existing one/s.
If you would like to find out more about saving clips within Reflections to create a 'showreel' of practice, take a look at this article here.
INFO: Your new Reflection will take a moment to load.
As the new clip is stored as a seperate, encrypted video file, it takes a moment to load. The time it takes will depend on the duration of the clip you have taken, and what internet connection you are connected to. It will read 'No media ready to stream' whilst this process takes place. Simply refresh, or return to the screen a short while later to access the video.
