This guide will tell you all you need to know to record on an iOS device using IRIS Connect Record app for devices running for iOS 12 and below.
For newer devices on iOS 13+ please ensure your IRIS Connect Record app is updated to 6 and above and refer to this guide as later versions of the app have a different design.
However, if you have not installed the app yet, you can do so by following the Record App download article here.

At least 2GB of space should be enough for a 1-hour recording, but each device will record at a slightly different resolution. iOS devices will record at 600MB per hour but you will need double this space for the encryption process to be able to take place.
Open the Record App
Once downloaded from App Store, the IRIS Connect Record app can be found on your device's Home Screen or in the app library.
Tap the icon to open it.
Allow permissions for full functionality
When you open the Record app for the first time on your device, you will be prompted to allow the app to send you notifications and to allow access to your device's camera, microphone, location, and internal storage. Make sure you tap "Allow" on all as these are required for the app to function correctly.
Select the mode
When you open the Record app for the first time, you will be prompted to select a mode. Select the Camera mode if you intend to use the device as a camera.
System Check
When you open the Record app for the first time, you will be prompted to run System Check to ensure that all relevant settings have been enabled and the app can connect to the internet.
Tap the Test button and then tap Allow on any pop up messages that will appear on your screen.
When the app has finished performing the checks, all fields should show green ticks. You might have to scroll down to see all the tests.
Tap Done. This will take you to the main dashboard.
NOTE:
You can run System checks anytime by going to Menu > System Check. It can be very handy for troubleshooting some common issues.
Personal Mode and Shared Mode
If you're the only person using the Record app on this device, you should use Personal Mode. Doing so will mean you only have to sign in once and all recordings will be uploaded to your private account.
The app is in Shared Mode by default. This mode is designed to be used when the device is shared between people and it requires you to sign in every time you make a recording.
To go into personal mode, go to Settings > Personal Mode, and enter your login details.
Tap on Save (you may need to tap on Return on the keyboard to hide it).
On the dashboard, a banner will show across the top showing that the device is in Personal Mode.
Create a Reflection
To create a Reflection, click New Reflection on the dashboard. Ensure that the Apple device has sufficient battery charge remaining before starting a new reflection.
If you're using a Shared Mode, you will need to select your name from the list and provide your password if you've signed in before. If you haven't signed in before, tap on Add User at the top-right hand corner and enter your login details.
Give your reflection a title
A simple reflection title is generated automatically. You can now change the title to something more descriptive. Note that you will be able to rename the reflection after you've made the recording, as well as any later time on the web platform.
Tap on Next to continue.
Start the recording
You will be now on the recording screen and the app will show you the camera feed. You should now take the time to position the device to best record your session.
To begin the recording, tap the green Start button.
The Screen Fade feature makes the screen go black the recording starts. This feature is designed to minimise distraction from glancing at the camera feed. It can be disabled by tapping the Settings cog while on the recording screen.
Upload the Reflection
When you have finished recording, press the Stop button. You will then be taken to a page asking if you wish to Delete or Upload your reflection. Press Save and Upload to upload your reflection to our web-platform.
A blue bar will show you the progress of your upload.
INFO: Recording without Internet
You can make recordings without the intrnet connection. Once you stop the recording and tap on Save and Upload, the video will be encrypted and stored on device until you reconnect to the internet. As soon as each video is uploaded, it is removed from the device's storage.
