This article is specifically for Teach First trainees and mentors who have volunteered to help trial the new anonymisation filter.
What is the new feature and why have we made it?
In response to user feedback, IRIS Connect has developed a new AI Anonymisation feature. This enhancement intelligently adjusts the level of video filtering in real time using facial recognition technology. This new feature automatically applies the minimum level of filter required to maintain anonymity of those in the recording, ensuring a balance between privacy and video clarity. There are four levels of filtering, which increase as a person moves closer to the recording device.
The feedback we have received is that the current anonymisation filter makes it difficult to fully understand what was happening in the recordings. We designed this new feature to address that challenge by maintaining compliance with anonymity requirements while making the video more useful and insightful as a professional learning and training tool.
How long will the trial last?
The trial will last till the December 19 2025, please find the time to complete at least one recording using this feature by then. In the January term please go back to using the standard Iris Connect App.
Feedback
We are inviting trainees to trial the new feature to assess whether it achieves the correct balance between privacy and clarity. We recognise that some schools do not currently require anonymisation, but we ask all users in the trial —regardless of current anonymisation settings—to test the feature in at least one classroom recording. This will allow us to collect feedback from both mandatory and optional-use contexts.
Please note that when using the anonymisation mode only an anonymised version of the recording is captured. You will not be able to remove the filter later on
As part of this trial your feedback is crucial. Please could you complete this form, by the end of the school term
Please start providing feedback as soon as one recording is done so that we can review the feedback that is coming in and tweak the filter if necessary. You can complete the feedback form as many times as you wish
How to get access to the new app
- Tap the update button on the home screen
-
Once the update has run, you should see a new app called Beta
- Use the Beta app to record exactly the same as you would with the standard Record app. The new anonymisation filter should be turned on automatically.
- Upload and review the recordings and share them with your DL/Mentor
Mentors/DLs - How to get access to the recordings using the new feature
Your trainees will be using a “beta” app which will be installed onto their devices. When they have shared their recording with you, you will receive a notification as normal and can review normal on the IRIS Connect platform using the usual logins.
Any recording using the new filter will be have ‘Beta’ at the start of the reflections title
