What is IRIS Connect
IRIS Connect exists to bridge the gap between effective professional learning and the reality of learning environments; supporting career-long learning from initial user education to ongoing professional development. Through carefully developed, easily accessible and secure video collaboration technology and frameworks, we empower and motivate users to continually develop their skills and achieve a high level of progress and sustained behavioural change in their environment.
IRIS Connect has been a pioneer in video-based professional learning since 2008. The experience we’ve gained from working with tens of thousands of educators around the world has enabled us to fine-tune our technology. Perhaps more important than the technology itself, we’ve also developed a deep understanding of the implementation process and change management required to ensure success. We have created and research-validated the frameworks necessary to successfully engage those using video to improve teaching and learning.
Our cloud-based platform and mobile app is designed to enable the experiences that research shows make professional learning effective: access to theory, observation of authentic practice, reflection and feedback, peer mentoring, coaching, and collaborative opportunities.
Why Video Technology
See this article on the benefits of video technology.
Picking a Focus
Having a particular focus when using IRIS Connect is important to guide reflection and increase the impact. This could be organisation or department-wide, or guidance could be provided to individuals to self-select a focus.
Your organisation or programme that you are part of should communicate to you any specific focuses or requirements for your use of IRIS Connect.
Remember, IRIS Connect is a professional development tool. All recordings should be for professional development, educational research and learning development purposes.
How it Works
You will receive an account. All recordings are automatically uploaded to your account where you can use the platform tools to review, comment, analyse and share.
With IRIS Connect, you are always in control of your professional development. You select what you record, whether to upload or delete it, whether to edit it and whether to share it.

Data Security & Retention
Be sure to check your organisation's internal policies with regard to:
- What password you use
- How long the recordings can be kept (typically in the data retention policy)
If unsure, check with your organisation's Data Protection Officer.
Selecting a Device
Depending on what your organisation has purchased you will either be using:
- Discovery Kit
- Starter Kit
- Devices that have been made available (these should have the IRIS Connect Record app on them)
- Your own device (your organisation should have communicated any specific policies and processes when using your own device)
- Android
- iOS
- Screen Capture
Always use the IRIS Connect Record app to record. This way the data is securely uploaded to your IRIS Connect account, and the local file on the recording device is automatically deleted.
Follow this guide to install the IRIS Connect Record app.
