Note on whether we can supporting integration
Please note any integration support will be dependent on customer requirements and financial and time constraints to support those requirements. Integration often requires development time so we cannot guarantee that all requests will be able to be supported and each will be managed on a case-by-case basis.
What is LTI?
LTI is an abbreviation for Learning Tools Interoperability, which is a standard protocol developed by the IMS Global Learning Consortium. It allows services like IRIS Connect to integrate with a Learning Management System (LMS) as single-sign-on tools.
Does every LMS support LTI?
No, not at all. But most of the big ones do, such as Canvas and Moodle.
How does it work?
Put simply, you provide the LMS with some information that allows it to create a single sign on connection to an external application. Additional information you provide will then tell it where to embed pieces of our user interface so that certain tools and functionality from our system can be used from within the main interface of the LMS.
Will every LMS that is LTI compliant work with IRIS Connect?
Although LTI is supposed to be a 'standard' and therefore how IRIS Connect is set up should work everywhere, it's implemented with variations in different systems. We have focused our development work on the LMS Canvas as it has strong support documentation and a wide variety of options for embedding tools.
What functionality does our LTI integration offer?
Global navigation placement and SSO
This placement enables the full IRIS Connect platform to be available within the LMS via a direct link from the global navigation of the LMS.
Course placement
This placement would allow admins to set sharing permissions within the course. Learners on the course would be able to use this placement to:
- · See videos shared to the course library
- · See their own videos
- · Share their own videos to the course (if permissioned by the course admin)
Module Item Placement
A placement from which you can allow a video (and its data collection tools) to be embedded as an item within the course (just like a page, assessment or quiz)
